Arguments in Favor of Secular Ethics

1. The absolute authority of theistic ethics is in it and of itself a problem, depriving man of freedom.
2. Yes, there are universal, logical rules that can be agreed upon by the majority of humans and of societies. These rules can be discovered though philosophy.
3. Humans will generally do what they believe to be right, and do follow logic. Alternatively: Humans may be irrational, but can be trained to overcome their irrationalities.
4. Religious ethics are not universal – they only appeal to the followers of their religion.
